Farewell to Summer Parish Bash

The Parish Health Ministry Council will be hosting a Farewell to Summer Parish Bash on Sunday, September 19th from 11am-3pm at Rollag Lutheran. We will be having a barbeque lunch (free will offering), a dunk tank, games, relay races, balloon animals, pie throwing, face painting, and fellowship. Please come out and join us, we hope to see everyone there!!

FIRST AID CLASS

A First Aid class will be offered on Saturday, October 16th from 9am-1pm at Rollag Lutheran. The cost is $15 which includes your certification card and skills card for you to keep as reference. Bring a sack lunch. Please contact Rachel Dahl at (218) 354-2657 or dillanjolee@hotmail.com to register for the class or if you have any questions. The class is limited to 10 participants and you must be currently CPR certified to enroll. Will you be ready to save a life?

Viking Park Service on July 11th

Truly one of the most memorable experiences for worship and fellowship is our Parish-wide Viking Park Service. This service is one of the several Parish-wide events for our Parish, and is always one of the favorites for all our members, neighbors, and guests. It is an outdoor service, and is subject to weather restrictions, but we’re confident conditions will be perfect on Sunday, July 11th. Bring your own comfortable outdoor chair and enjoy an outdoor service under the oak trees.

We will have a guest speaker, Kevin Wallevand, of WDAY television.

Order of Events:

9:45 AM Hymn Prelude

10:00 AM Worship Service

11:15 AM Pot-Luck Dinner (please bring a dish to share and a lawn chair. Beverages, plates, and utensils provided)

Special Music: The Band of Faith of Pelican Rapids; Mike Nettestad, Director.

Directions:

From Rollag, take 2 miles south to 130th Avenue South

OR:

From Highway #34, go north on Highway #32 for 3 miles until 130th Avenue South.

Then, on 130th Avenue South, go 1/8 mile West.

NOTE: Due to road construction between Highway 31 and 32 on County 10 (the “Downer Road”) we are advising that those that are traveling from the Interstate use the Highway #34 option.

Clean-up Sunday

Today many of the Rollag Congregation joined together to make quick work out on various outdoor projects at Rollag Church. In addition to the usual annual projects, such as headstone straightening, flower planting, and tree-trimming, we put the final touches on the concrete sidewalk project by raking and planting grass on the borders. It was a great day, and we were able to finish relatively quickly, as we didn’t have any major projects like we’ve had in past years, such as mature tree removal.

Steamer Hill 5K/Fun Run

The 1st Annual Steamer Hill 5K/Fun Run was a huge success!! Thanks to everyone that came out on such a beautiful day to support the Parish Health Ministry Council.

Congratulations to our top three male finishers 1. Craig Isakson (18:49:22) 2. Shawn Aakre (22:14:18) 3. Charle Aakre (24:43:66) and to our top three female finishers 1. Laura Anderson (20:55:40) 2. Morgan Aakre (24:37:74) and 3. Erica Herbranson (25:54:22). The winning male and female finishers each received a $25 gift certificate to Scheel’s and the top three male and top three female finishers all received medals.

Thanks to our sponsors, we were able to give away wonderful door prizes. Congratulations to our winners Ron Aakre, Bill Erbes, Brent Helgeson, Gunner Lawson, Charle Aakre, Lysa Jensen, Ralph Fiskness, Steph Nelson, Londa Alm, Tosha Olsonowski, Becky Dunham, Ben Aakre, Morgan Aakre, Elizabeth Aakre, Michaela Ludwig, Marcie Voss., Brooklyn Spencer, and Bea Young!!

Course Records Shattered at Rollag 5K

Pastor Jim set loose over 60 runners at this year’s first annual 5K run for the Gran-Park-Rollag Parish Health Ministry Council. Runners were beset by various difficulties, such as an extremely long commute, lack of vehicles, distracting scenery, Minnesota fishing opener, and weather that was not amenable for remaining indoors. Many ran the entire way, and we also had a lot of walkers. Today was the first nice day for several weeks, which was great for running, but for many there, it was their first time running this year – and hence no training runs. Thank you to the Parish Health Committee, our Sponsors, course volunteers, and especially to Rachel and Tim Dahl, and Tammy Noteboom for their fabulous efforts on organizing this years run.

Various members from the Gran-Park-Rollag Parish participated this afternoon in the Mobile-packing event for Feed My Starving Children (www.fmsc.org) at the Hawley Gymnasium. Pastor Jim Greene led a contingent of about 20 team members who worked hard to small bags of food destined for a needy child feeding center among the 67 countries that FMSC serves. Our Parish worked hard with several fundraisers in order to fund our place in the event. Congratulations, and thank you to all who participated!

Steamer Hill 5K and Kids’ Fun Run

The Parish Health Ministry Council will be hosting a 5K and Kids’ Fun Run on Saturday, May 15^th. The race will be held at Steamer Hill starting at 9 am. Registration will begin at 8 am. The Kids’ Fun Run will follow at 10:30 am. Registration forms are available at each of the churches, are featured in your April parish newsletter, or you may register the day of the race. Children do not have to register for the Fun Run, but parents must be present for them to participate. The cost will be $15 for the 5K and there is no charge for the Kids’ Fun Run. All proceeds will benefit the Parish Health Ministry Council. Get active with us!!

We currently have many sponsors that have donated items that we will give away as door-prizes. Medals will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers. All children that participate in the Fun Run will receive medals as well. Check out our Facebook Fan Page (Steamer Hill Fun Run/5K) for updated race information.

Please find the enclosed race flyer and registration form in this month’s newsletter. Only pre-registrants will receive a race T-shirt. Pre-registration will be accepted until Sunday, April 25^th. If you register after this time by May 12^th the cost will remain $15. Registration fees after May 12^th or on race day will increase to $20. We will be holding a registration day on Sunday, April 18^th, at all three churches following services.

We are in need of some monetary donations or donations of cases of water to help offset some of the cost for holding the Steamer Hill Fun Run/5K. If you are able to help with this in any way, it would be greatly appreciated. Donations can be given to Rachel Dahl or Tammy Noteboom.
